October 9, 2013 - Louis O.  Schwartz, President of the American Sportscasters Association, was a guest at the dedication ceremony of the merger of the New York Downtown Hospital into the New York-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital on October 1, 2013. Mr. Schwartz is a member of the hospital’s Community Advisory Board.

Attending the ceremony at the invitation of Steven J. Corwin, M.D., CEO of New York Presbyterian Hospital, was outgoing Chairman of the New York Downtown Hospital Board of Trustees, Christopher L. Mann. Mr. Mann is a partner of the prestigious law firm Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP, New York. He spoke briefly about the rich history of the New York Downtown Hospital and his complete support of the merger of the two hospitals.

Also attending the ceremony was Michael J. Fosina, Senior Vice President and COO of New York-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital. Mr. Fosina was praised for his work in making the rapid transition possible.

In his remarks, Dr. Corwin stressed the importance of this hospital to the community. “As the only acute hospital serving lower Manhattan, this campus is vital to meeting the health care needs of many populations.”

Mr. Schwartz said he was so pleased to be a part of the ceremony, and as a longtime resident of the downtown community, echoing Dr. Corwin’s sentiments, stated, “The New York-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital plays a vital role in the health care of downtown Manhattan and with the merger of these two hospitals, we residents will enjoy top-rated physician and hospital care, with no need to go uptown in order to obtain these services.”
