Former Voice of the
New York Rangers and Giants

Jack Gordon

Jim Gordon, veteran news and sports broadcaster, died on February 17, 2003, at his home in Putnam Valley after a long battle with cancer.

An ex marine and a graduate of Syracuse University, Gordon delivered the first newscast at WINS when the radio station went to an all news format in 1965. He was also a news director at WNEW AM and WABC AM.

In his days as a sports broadcaster, Gordon was the radio voice of the Syracuse Nationals, a back up for Marty Glickman on Knicks radiocasts, host of the Brooklyn Dodgers pre and post game radio shows, and the play by play voice on New York Rangers telecasts with partner Bill "The Big Whistle" Chadwick from 1973 1983.

Gordon was probably best known for his 17 years as Dick Lynch's partner doing radio play by play for the Giants. He forever endeared himself to Giants fans by reporting that Scott Norwood's field goal attempt had sailed wide right in Super Bowl XXIII, giving the Giants a Super Bowl victory.
